O Hippopotamus!
During one of the first Make Incredible Puppets workshops run in Athens, we started making a rather large hippopotamus for a song about a hippo! We made it over the following weeks at the workshops I ran at ‘Kafenio’ by the Academy of Plato. She’s already made several appearances at events around Athens!
Once completed, we took her away for the weekend, to glorious Evia. She had the time of her life!
When we got back, our hippo and the gang tagged along with us to run my last puppet making workshop in Athens for a while at Journey Without Map in Petralona where she proved very popular.
The hippo returns
After a 6 month return to Sheffield, I found myself back in Athens and reunited with our hippo friend. It was good timing, as I’d arrived back in time to take her to Kipseli to celebrate World Puppet Day. Here she is getting acquainted with a glorious ostrich!
Hospital visit
Through meeting puppeteers at the festival, I was invited to join some on a visit to Athens Children’s Hospital. We took our respective puppets. I took my newly made Gruffalo shadow puppets and several soft puppets. Among them, our purple hippo who played ‘hide and seek’ with other puppets entertaining children on various wards and in their beds. Here she is enjoyed a coffee break with the other puppeteers after the visit.
More Soft Puppet Making
A year later and our hippo is back at the lovely Kafeneio helping us make more soft puppets!
