Mini van
Back in the day, at art college, I’d listen to songs my brother Richard had written and recorded on cassette tape. They made me quite homesick. I’d hitch up from Exeter to see him. We’d jump in his cherished Mini van and race around the back lanes of Rotherham, listening to Lou Reed and the like. I loved those times, and I thought that memory would be a good thing for Richard to sing about now. Then I thought that if it were a song, it would need cover art or a video, so I made a shadow puppet of his van. I had the idea to stick it on a car window and sit inside and film it racing alongside, perhaps with Richard driving today, 40 or so years later. I haven’t yet, I might. Meanwhile, I’ll park it here…

I sent Richard these photos and shared my idea. He replied with these snaps of his van – my memory wasn’t too far off!
